Arbanassi is a picturesque settlement situated four kilometres north-east of Veliko Turnovo. It is supposed to have been founded at the end of the XVth century by orthodox Albanians, Greeks and Bulgarians from Macedonia. It reached its economic flourishment during the XVIth-XVIIth centuries when it became a centre of trade and artisanship. It was during that time that were built monumental houses and churches which impress us with their rich decoration, woodcarving and wall-painting – nowadays they represent unique monuments of our architectural and artistic heritage. Arbanassi is a place of attraction for many Bulgarian and foreign tourists, who, after having come in close contact with the enchantment of its houses, churches and monasteries, keep on bearing them in their hearts forever.
